Whoever said aging is an inevitable part of life, “and thus, should be lived joyfully” probably hasn’t experienced much of the undesirable things it brings on, among which is the dramatic decrease in hormone levels.
In men, the decline in testosterone levels (low T) can cause erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle mass, hair loss, irritability, depression, and weight gain, just to name a few distressing symptoms.
If you are experiencing these symptoms and are looking to visit a reliable urology clinic within the Phoenix area in Arizona for low testosterone treatment, visit us at here at Ironwood Urology to consult our board-certified men’s health expert, Dr. Desiderio Avila, Jr.
After Dr. Avila performs a thorough evaluation, he will devise an appropriate treatment plan, which could be a combination of lifestyle modifications and any of the following:
Testosterone Injections
Testosterone injections are usually administered by Dr. Avila, typically in the large, fleshy muscles in your buttocks (gluteal muscles). However, he may also allow you to self-administer them. In such case, you inject the solution into your thigh muscles.
Dr. Avila may recommend that you get the injections weekly or biweekly for optimal effect.
TESTOPEL® Testosterone Pellet
Dr. Avila also offers TESTOPEL®–pellets containing crystalline testosterone that slowly release the hormone for a long-acting androgenic effect.
The testosterone pellets are implanted subcutaneously, in your hip, buttocks, or any other fatty area every two to four weeks, up to six months.
Prescription Testosterone Gel
If you prefer to restore your testosterone levels the noninvasive way, Dr. Avila may prescribe testosterone gel instead.
To use your testosterone gel, simply spread a thin layer onto your skin over your shoulders, or upper arms. Make sure the surface is clean and dry, and not to rub it nor apply it on your scrotum or genital area. Give the gel time to dry (at least three to five minutes) before getting dressed. Depending on the brand, you may also need to apply the gel onto your back or chest.
Throughout the course of your treatment, Dr. Avila will see you regularly to monitor its progress and, if necessary, make adjustments to the dosage.
